Indian team asked not to shower for over two minutes in Cape Town

CAPE TOWN (Dunya News) - The Indian cricket team has been asked by the authorities in Cape Town to not shower for more than two minutes due to severe shortage of water in the city.

The Indian side led by skipper Virat Kohli is playing their away tour in South Africa. The two teams are clashing in their first Test match held in Cape Town.

Indian media reported that there are tough circumstances in terms of water in the South African city. The restrictions on usage of water were enforced in Cape Town on January 1.

The authorities made an official request to the Indian team on last Friday to cut down the usage of water with with local temperatures set to reach 27C during the game. The players came across the message when they were sweaty and tired after practice.

The residents of Cape Town face monthly water scarcity up to 10,500 litres per household which means there is only 87 litres of water per person in the whole city. The city mayor has mentioned that there will perhaps be a day when the taps will run dry in next April or May at the current rate of water consumption.
